Positivity amidst the pandemic

The pandemic has derailed our sense of normalcy. Staying at home and distancing ourselves from our community while facing the economic, health, and political uncertainties only compounds our anxiety and isolation.

Given the circumstances how can we possibly ask ourselves to remain calm and positive?!

First, it helps to know how anxiety works, what fuels overwhelm, how to notice it in ourselves and then ways in which we can reduce it. After speaking to many of my patients, this is a short list of what pandemic anxiety can feel like.

MY PANDEMIC ANXIETY FEELS LIKE

There is no way I can get all this done

It has to be PERFECT

Everything pisses me off

It is going to be like this forever

They’re judging me

I should be able to manage

There is no way I can get all this done

I can’t concentrate on anything

This is too much

FML I just ate the whole bar of chocolate

I need a break

I can’t bear to face other people
